Why buy a hearing aid?

We can summarise the benefits of a hearing aid as:

  • Improved self-confidence,
  • Better personal and professional relationships,
  • Sense of independence and security,
  • Increased mobility,
  • Easier communication
  • Satisfaction with life overall.

You may have already learnt that anyone is entitled to a hearing aid for free from the National Health Service. You may also be asking yourself ‘why should I buy one then?’ The answer can be both simple and more detailed than you will have first thought…

Hidden Hearing customerThe most important reason to buy a hearing aid is one of choice. NHS colleagues work very hard to deliver a free aid at the point of delivery service and you will be told when, where and what type of amplification you are to receive. When you choose to consult a hearing care professional from Hidden Hearing you can choose where and when you want to be seen. If you have received a recommendation, you can even choose WHO you wish to consult. Hidden Hearing have nearly 80 full time dedicated hearing Centres throughout the UK and even offer a comprehensive service at home – out of normal business hours if necessary!

Traditional Hearing Aid provided by the NHS

When you choose to learn about a recommended hearing solution from Hidden Hearing, your hearing aid audiologist will listen carefully to what you want the hearing aid to look like, how you want it to function and what you need it for. You will then be offered a choice of hearing aids and advice on which would be the most suitable for you and your budget. Always remember that you have the choice to do nothing.

Another reason can be one of timing. Hidden Hearing clients are usually fitted within 10 days of the first appointment. NHS waiting times vary enormously and it has been known for existing patients to wait over a year for new hearing aids.

Typical Hearing Aid prescribed by Hidden Hearing

At Hidden Hearing we believe that getting a new hearing system is only the start of the journey. You will find that our hearing aid audiologists are not only professional and thorough – they genuinely enjoy what they do. We welcome the opportunity to improve still further a client’s new hearing aid experience so repeat visits are inclusive and are no problem. When the hearing aid fitting goes well, you will only be seen one more time after the initial fit. However, it is not unusual for a client to be seen a couple of times before commencing the Hidden Hearing PHT (periodic hearing test) programme. This is an extensive follow up routine that will mean that you are seen at least once a year to check whether your hearing has changed and to ensure that you continue to get the most from your hearing aids.
