Fiona Idriss: Audiologist and tinnitus expert
Fiona Idriss is a highly experienced audiologist, with special expertise in tinnitus management and auditory rehabilitation.
After studying and working in London specialist centres, including the Nuffield Hearing and Speech Centre for Children, and Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital (now part of University College LondonHospitals (UCLH), Fiona returned to live in Kent, and worked for both private and NHS hospital audiology services.
Experiential learning with the Psychology Team at UCLH, (while studying Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Tinnitus, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction training at the Centre for Mindfulness at Bangor University) supported Fiona’s insight into our physical reaction to tinnitus, our emotions and thoughts. Fiona offers advice on methods to reduce tinnitus-associated anxiety and reconnect with our enjoyment of life.
Fiona leads Hidden Hearing’s holistic patient-centred clinics at the Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury, with rapid-access telephone advice. She supports her work with diagnostic testing and hearing aid management.
“Tinnitus often hits hard during particularly difficult periods in our lives. I want everyone with tinnitus to have easy access to early advice, diagnostic assessment and to feel fully supported and listened to.
“I aim to support and guide you through the maze of tinnitus distress, untangling your physical and emotional responses, and to give practical solutions that fit to your individual needs.
“It doesn’t need to be a debilitating condition with early intervention, education and accessible advice. When you feel stressed and anxious you need reassurance that there is a route to acceptance, and that tinnitus is truly manageable”
